Service · Reverse engineering and CAD modeling

From a physical part or an idea to a printable CAD file

You do not need to arrive with a finished file: we rebuild the CAD from a sample, a drawing or a concept, optimize it for additive manufacturing and turn it into a printed part. One supplier, from measurement to delivery.

Dimensional survey

We measure the physical sample with precision instruments: functional dimensions, tolerances, mating interfaces and insert seats.

Print-ready CAD modeling

We rebuild a parametric 3D model ready for additive production. The STEP file stays yours and can be reused anywhere.

DfAM optimization

We apply Design for Additive rules from the modeling stage onward: orientation, wall thickness, part consolidation and material selection.

From physical part to CAD file, step by step

From the physical part, even with no drawings: 1 the scanner captures the surface, 2 the points become a triangle mesh, 3 a parametric CAD model with editable dimensions and constraints is rebuilt on the mesh, 4 the replacement part is printed from it, identical to the original or improved.

Reverse engineering: from 3D scan to CAD modelAn angle bracket split into three sections that show the same surface at the three stages of reverse engineering: the points captured by the 3D scanner, with the scanner's laser line; the triangle mesh built from the points; and the solid parametric CAD model, with its hole and dimensions.60013D scanpoint cloud02Meshtriangles from points03Parametric CADdriving dimensions

Where we can start from

  • A physical part to replicate or improve (even worn or broken)
  • A spare part the original supplier no longer offers
  • A 2D drawing, a sketch or a technical specification
  • A product idea to turn into a prototype
  • An existing CAD to adapt for 3D printing

What you get

  • 3D CAD model in STEP format (plus the native file on request)
  • A printed part in the material suited to its real use
  • DfAM guidance on orientation and post-processing
  • Fast iterations: CAD changes and a reprint in 24–48 hours

To validate the appearance and dimensions of new products, we pair modeling with high-definition MSLA resin prototypes (50 μm resolution): the fastest way to present a finished concept to customers and stakeholders.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about reverse engineering and CAD modeling.

Yes: we start from the physical sample, a 2D drawing or even just the idea and rebuild a printable 3D CAD model with precise dimensional measurements. The file is yours: we deliver it in STEP format together with the printed part.

Not yet: we rebuild parts through dimensional measurement and CAD modeling, the most reliable method for mechanical components with defined geometries. For complex organic surfaces we assess the best route with you case by case.

It depends on complexity: a simple mechanical component typically takes 2–4 hours of modeling, quoted together with the print. Send photos and the main dimensions through the quote form and you will get an estimate within 24 hours.

Got the part but not the file? Leave it to us.
