Design for Additive Manufacturing consulting

We redesign your components for 3D printing, optimizing geometry, material and production flow to cut weight, cost and assembly time.

Topology optimization

We remove material where it does no work while keeping or increasing stiffness and strength. Typically 30–60% lighter.

Part consolidation

Several components become a single printed part: less assembly, less tolerance stack-up, more reliability.

Material and process selection

We pick the polymer and the technology that best fit your loads, operating environment and target production volumes.

When DfAM pays off

  • Weight reduction on structural components
  • Metal replacement of aluminum or steel parts
  • Consolidating complex assemblies into a single part
  • An original design optimized for CNC or molding, not for additive
  • First industrial 3D printing projects for companies new to AM

What the service delivers

  • Optimized CAD in STEP or native format
  • DfAM technical report explaining every change
  • Optional structural FEA (static, modal, buckling)
  • Weight, cost and lead time compared with the original design
  • Recommendations on print orientation and post-processing

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about Design for Additive Manufacturing consulting.

DfAM is design optimized for 3D printing: topology optimization, part consolidation, print orientation, internal lattices and the choice of material and process. Compared with a CAD designed for CNC or molding, it cuts weight, cost per part and time-to-part.

On structural components redesigned with topology optimization and printed in PA-CF or CFC we typically save 30–60% of the weight of the original metal part, at equal specific stiffness and with no tooling costs.

Yes: we deliver a DfAM report with the original vs optimized CAD, the reasons for each change, the proposed material and technology, the print orientation and estimates of weight, cost and lead time. The report comes with the commercial offer.

On request we run structural FEA (static, modal, buckling) with the real anisotropic data of the chosen material and process, comparing the original part with the optimized version before printing.

A first basic DfAM review is free and included in every quote (orientation, critical tolerances, geometry fixes). Advanced DfAM with topology optimization and a technical report is quoted separately, based on engineering hours.

Send the original CAD and we will propose a DfAM plan with estimated weight, cost and lead time against the current design.
