MJF · Multi Jet Fusion

Industrial MJF 3D printing in Brescia, Italy

MJF 3D printing (Multi Jet Fusion) builds the part in a bed of polymer powder: on each 80 µm layer an inkjet head deposits a fusing agent over the cross-section and a detailing agent along its edges, then an infrared lamp fuses only the treated area. The result is dense parts with nearly identical mechanical properties in every direction and uniform surfaces, with no supports: the unfused powder holds the part and lets us fill the build volume with many components in the same build. It is the choice for short and medium production runs of end-use parts in nylon PA12 and PA11, polypropylene and TPU, with a usable build volume of 380 × 284 × 380 mm.

How MJF 3D printing works

For each 80 µm layer:

  1. The roller spreads the powder;
  2. The inkjet head traces the cross-section with the fusing agent and sharpens its edge with the detailing agent;
  3. The infrared lamp fuses only the treated area.

The surrounding powder supports the part: no supports are needed, even for lattices and closed cavities.

Key strengths

  • Near-isotropic properties: MJF PA12 reaches a tensile strength of 48 MPa in both XY and Z
  • No supports: internal channels, interlocking features and assemblies printed pre-assembled
  • Usable build volume of 380 × 284 × 380 mm, filled with many parts per build
  • Dense, low-porosity parts with a uniform surface ready for dyeing or painting
  • Industrial materials: PA12, PA12 White, glass-filled PA12, PA11, PP and TPU

Typical applications

  • Short and medium runs of end-use components, from tens to thousands of parts
  • Housings, covers and enclosures for electronics
  • Snap-fits, living hinges and clips in PA11
  • Ducts, tanks and fluid-contact parts in polypropylene
  • Gaskets, bellows and flexible parts in TPU
  • Spare parts and components for machinery and automation

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about industrial MJF 3D printing.

Both fuse polymer powder without supports. MJF traces the cross-section with inkjet agents and fuses it with an infrared lamp: it is efficient on runs that fill the build volume (380 × 284 × 380 mm) and produces near-isotropic parts. SLS sinters the cross-section with a laser and is ideal for prototypes and small batches. We choose the process based on quantity, material and finish.

PA12 (gray), PA12 White, PA12 filled with glass beads, PA11, polypropylene (PP) and TPU. The HDT, tensile strength and elongation of each one are listed in the materials catalog.

They depend on quantity, material and finishing, and are stated in the quote, which we send within 24 working hours of your CAD upload.

As-built, PA12 is gray with a matte, slightly grainy surface. On request we can assess finishes such as black dyeing and painting: mention them in your quote request.
